The Shimmer Dock is used for programming and charging the Shimmer unit.

Description

The Shimmer Dock is used for programming the Shimmer unit. It can also be used as a single unit charging dock and is connected via USB cable to any PC or laptop. When the docks are plugged into a Windows system, the drivers will load automatically and a message will be displayed in the lower right of your screen identifying the dock.

When a Shimmer with a microSD card is inserted into a Shimmer Dock that is connected to a PC, the host system can mount the flash storage card in Shimmer as though it were a USB flash key.

The Shimmer Dock has recently been updated to include a GPS module. The GPS module will transmit serial GPS NMEA sentences to the docked Shimmer's external connector UART lines. This data can be used for application synchronization or localization.
