The Future of Healthcare: ‘More personalised, much more real time, should be lower cost, should be higher performance … because you’ve got a sensor’

Paul Jacobs, CEO Qualcomm

The adoption of wireless sensor networks (WSN) is increasing from areas of industrial processing, environmental monitoring, smart buildings, automation, to sports science and healthcare.

WSN is also often referred to as Ubiquitous Computing, where omnipresent wireless sensors interact constantly with the real world. Wireless sensors are forecasted to see explosive growth in the coming years and become integrated into our social fabric and everyday activities such as our homes, cars, office settings, factories, hospitals, and on our person.

WSN’s allow for accurate real-time information on areas of key concern, and have the potential to provide advanced warnings of natural disasters, healthcare emergencies, and real time feedback for rehabilitation and sport technique analysis.

Here’s a short video clip we find useful to show the potential growth and future for ubiquitous computing and wireless sensing …
